Detective Eva Zermeno, a pillar of strength within the Chandler Police Department, released the details of the incident. Chaos erupted around 6 p.m. when officers responded to what was initially reported as a welfare check on a person in a parking lot.

When officers arrived at the scene, they were faced with a serious threat. The subject, identified as Renata Eldred, 35 years old, was detected with a firearm inside his vehicle. Despite officers' commands regarding the weapon, Eldred chose defiance over compliance, refusing to surrender his weapon, Detective Zermeno revealed.

“He was given clear orders not to touch the weapon, but he ignored those orders. Ignoring the officer's pleas, the suspect brazenly grabbed the weapon and made a threatening move toward the officer. Faced with an imminent threat, the officer discharged two rounds, striking the suspect in the upper chest,” revealed Sgt. Emma Huenneke of the Chandler Police Department.

After the heroic confrontation, Eldred was taken into custody and received immediate medical attention. Notably, the officer involved escaped unharmed, a testament to the quick thinking and unwavering resolve demonstrated in the face of danger.

Authorities assured the public that there is no longer any imminent threat to the community.

“Although they are chaotic at times, our officers are meticulously trained to handle these high-pressure situations,” emphasized Detective Zermeno. “We set up a secure perimeter, preserving valuable evidence as we move diligently forward.”

Eldred, after receiving the necessary medical attention and later being released from the hospital, is now behind bars. The Maricopa County Jail bravely took her into custody on charges of disorderly conduct and aggravated assault, articulated by Sgt. Huenneke.

The Chandler Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens. With unwavering dedication and unyielding strength, they continue to uphold the principles of law and order, ensuring that justice prevails.
