Prominent conservative lawyer John LeFevre shared a 2022 study on X that proves it. Written by Norwegian teachers, the to study titled: “Does Your Doctor Matter? Physician Quality and Patient Outcomes” states that a standard deviation increase in physician quality is associated with a 12.2% decrease in two-year mortality risk d a patient
“Using a lower bound on the predicted value of an additional year of life in Norway ($35,000), our results show that replacing the worst-performing family physicians (bottom 5 percent of the VA distribution) with physicians of average quality family generates a social benefit of $27,417 per patient, $9.05 million per GP, or $934 million in total,” the report's summary says. “At the same time, our results show that higher quality GPs are associated with lower cost per patient.”
LeFerve also shared an image showing how affirmative action affects medical school acceptance rates.
As can be deduced from the graph, Black medical school applicants in the bottom 10% of the applicants accepted to medical school at about the same rates as whites and Asians in the top 10% of applicants. The American Medical Association limits the number of licensed physicians each year, making this a particularly dangerous zero-sum game.
