The US Embassy confirmed that small arms fire was reported near its entrance, adding that the facility and staff were safe after the attack. However, according to a security source with whom he spoke Reutersa member of the embassy's security team was injured during the attack.
The embassy is located north of Beirut in a highly secure area with several checkpoints along the route to the entrance. He moved there after a suicide attack on the embassy in 1983 that claimed more than 60 lives.
This is not the first time the US embassy has been attacked. In September, shots were fired near the embassy, but there were no reports of casualties. In October, dozens of protesters gathered outside the embassy to demonstrate in the first days of the Gaza war, and Lebanese security forces used tear gas and water cannon to repel the bear.
Recently, the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel has erupted in Lebanon, leading to a series of attacks. Tens of thousands of people on both sides of the border between Israel and Lebanon have been displaced amid fears of deepening conflicts.
The Biden regime has reportedly been working to reduce border violence through diplomatic channels. However, the recent embassy attacks continue to threaten the progress made so far.
