A 17-year-old volleyball player was left paralyzed with brain damage by a transgender opponent who “laughed with delight” after knocking her to the floor.

He added: “These women have worked hard and trained tirelessly to get to the Olympics, all so they can get punched in the face by a guy.

Now a communications major at Western Carolina University, Ms. McNabb says she still struggles to move the right side of her body, causing her to regularly lose her balance and fall.

Her mental acuity is also damaged, with Ms McNabb requiring hours of extra tutoring each month and extra time during tests due to the damage.

And she has struggled with much worse vision, anxiety and depression as she struggles to recover from her injuries.

The student, who played volleyball, softball and basketball, also had her athletic career cut short early on, saying she can no longer play the way she once knew how.

Experts say there is a risk of injury such as a concussion to playing volleyball, regardless of the players' gender.
