Former Harris official warns citizens not to underestimate Trump's debate odds against the vice president

-

Vice President Kamala Harris' former communications director Jamal Simmons warned Democrats Monday not to overestimate her former boss' performance against former President Donald Trump in their upcoming debate.

Rick Klein, ABC Washington Bureau Chief confirmed that both the Trump and Harris campaigns have agreed to a Sept. 10 debate on ABC News. Simmons, on “CNN Newsroom With Wolf Blitzer,” noted that Harris hasn't debated in four years, while Trump has more recent experience, cautioning against underestimating the former president.

“Democrats should be a little bit cautious on one issue. There's a debate that's going to come up. Remember this, Kamala Harris hasn't been in a debate since she debated Mike Pence four years ago,” Simmons said. “Donald Trump has been in a couple of debates since then … She hasn't been in this debate format, so I think the Democrats should give her some room to have a slow start, give -give him some space to have it, some time to learn how to do the debate format again”.

“He will do very well against Donald Trump. He has a lot of bullets in his arsenal, but let's not exaggerate what will happen in this debate. Donald Trump will not be a pile of tears when the debate is over,” he added.

trump he said he also agreed to discuss the dates with Fox News and NBC News during a news conference at Mar-a-Lago.

“We have spoken to the heads of the networks and everything has been confirmed apart from some fairly minor details, the audience… somewhere, in which city we would put it. But all things that will be solved very easily. I think it will be very easy. The other party must accept the terms. They may not agree. I don't know if they'll agree,” he said. “She hasn't done any interviews. He can't do an interview, he's barely competent.”

The Trump campaign on Saturday suggested that the former president would hold town halls if Harris declined his invitation to the Fox and NBC debates.

Harris hasn't sat down for a interview nor celebrated in press conference since becoming the presumptive Democratic nominee after Biden fell down out on July 21st.
