INSIDER: Trump and JD Vance on Biden 'coup': 'Invoke the 25th Amendment if he's mentally incompetent'

President Joe Biden's ouster from the Democratic ticket prompted former President Donald Trump and his running mate to answer the “coup” question with a view of the 25th Amendment.

“If it's a real problem, they should do it the right way.”

When Trump and Ohio Sen. JD Vance sat down with Fox News host Jesse Watters for their first joint interview as the 2024 Republican candidates for president and vice president, Biden had yet to announce what his retreat had been widely considered inevitable, or even orchestrated. of the race

The efforts required to cover up Biden's questionable fitness for office and the moves made that ultimately led to Sunday's announcement prompted the host to matter-of-factly ask, “Is this a coup against Joe Biden?”

“Yes,” Trump replied as his newly minted running mate replied, “Yes, I think so.”

“I mean, look, there's a constitutional process, the 25th Amendment. If Joe Biden can't run for president, he can't serve as president,” Vance continued. “And if they want to put him down because he's mentally unfit to serve, invoke the 25th Amendment. You can't do it in the most politically beneficial way for the Democrats. If it's a real issue, they should do it from the appropriate way”.

Elsewhere in the interview, Watters raised what was seen as a blatant cover-up of the chief resident's compromised mental faculties, suggesting: “You would investigate the people who hid Joe Biden's condition.”

“Well, I think somebody has to look at it,” Trump replied. “Look, you had people who lied to the American public. And I tell you what. You should check out his doctors because his doctors keep giving him this wonderful report. I'm not a doctor, but I saw the other day, I couldn't get up the stairs for the kids getting on Air Force One.”

After Biden's withdrawal, a chorus of Republican politicians echoed the position that, if the president was unfit to run for re-election, he was also unfit to serve out the rest of his term, as the GOP leader wondered if the campaign should be “.reimbursed for fraud,” suspecting that Biden's re-election bid would never cross the finish line.

Vance was among those who maintained X's position that “there is no middle ground,” while calling attention to Harris' complicity in the administration's “failures” and in covering up the state of Biden.

“Joe Biden has been the worst president in my lifetime and Kamala Harris has been with him every step of the way,” the senator wrote. “For the past four years, she co-signed Biden's open border and green scam policies that drove up the cost of housing and groceries. She owns all of these failures and lied for nearly four years about the ability Biden's mindset, leaving the nation with a president who can't get the job done.

“President Trump and I are ready to save America, whoever is at the top of the Democratic ticket. Bring it on,” he added.

After the withdrawal announcement prompted a special Sunday edition of “Jesse Watters Primetime,” the rest of the joint interview was scheduled to air Monday as originally planned.
