Democrats looking to oust President Joe Biden from the 2024 ticket will have to do it very quickly because time is running out, argued Chuck Todd, chief political analyst for NBC News.
On Friday, the former “Meet the Press” host joined Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC, the day after Biden's “big boy” press at NATO's 75th anniversary celebration, a high-profile event risk for the 81-year-old man who is fighting for his political survival.
“If they're going to make a move against Biden, though, they have to do it this weekend,” Todd said, urging rioters to make their move within the next 48 hours.

The conversation focused on how a DEI candidate like Vice President Kamala Harris instead of Biden would increase turnout to allow Democrats to regain control of the House of Representatives, which both hosts point out is a reason why lawmakers in the lower house are the most vocal about being left out. “Here's the thing, right, in theory it's a winnable race for Biden, but the question is can he do the things he needs to do to win?” Todd asked. “And when you look at even the recent historical context, nobody with that low of a job approval rating as a sitting president has ever won, period.”
“It's just a given in the modern era of polling, and that's why all these highly qualified, highly experienced strategists look at what looks like a tight race and say, yeah, but when you look under the hood, realize that one candidate is much stronger than the other and that's the problem.”
He continued, “And another thing about Harris and I've talked to some Democrats, you know, while she polls very similarly to Biden, what's interesting is that it's a different, potentially different constituency, and so when I've talked to some down-ballot strategists, they've argued that while she may not be as good, she doesn't do as well with swing voters as you'd like a Democratic candidate to do, but if she gets younger voters and slightly more enthusiastic African-American voters to turn out, which even if he loses to Trump, gives Democrats a better chance with an electorate that would allow them to win the house in New York…
It was a startling suggestion that Democrats already see the election as a lost cause and that promoting Harris may be the only way to win the House by appealing to voters who base their decisions on gender and skin color over the problems
“You know the big fear with Biden at the top of the ticket … especially why House Democrats I think are the most panicked right now about their situation is that you're going to have a lot of demoralized Democrats in blue states who say well, you don't have to go to me, I don't like it and suddenly…those swing districts in New York and California, which are the key to the Democrats winning the House, there are two or three left less points and it's a participation issue and it's a core issue,” Todd said.
“So that's why House Democrats are almost on the sidelines,” he added. “Frankly, Senate Democrats knew they were probably losing control of the Senate, just the map being what it is. But there's a reason why it's House Democrats who are more vocal right now than even Senate Democrats because they see control of the House slipping away.”
“If they want to make a move against Biden, they have to do it this weekend,” he said. “They can't keep dragging this out. They can't keep waiting for another moment, another excuse.”
