Justin Roiland quit two more TV shows after domestic violence allegation

JUstin Roiland, the co-creator of the popular series Rick and Morty who had just left the show after revelations of a domestic violence charge against him, has been removed from two Hulu productions for the same reason.

Roiland co-created the Solar Opposites series and served as executive producer and voice actor for the recently released Koala Man. Both series, like Rick and Morty, will continue, without Roiland. Additionally, 20th Television Animation, where Roiland had an overall deal and is producing both series, has also cut ties with the 42-year-old animator, the Hollywood Reporter said.

NBC News revealed earlier this month that Roiland was facing felony domestic violence and false imprisonment charges for a 2020 incident with a woman he was dating at the time. That threw the future of Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty up in the air, but on Tuesday it was announced that the show would continue, without Roiland.

In addition to co-creating the main animated sci-fi show, Roiland also played a major role in the show’s creative direction and voiced many of the characters, including the titular Rick and Morty.

Roiland pleaded not guilty to the charges, maintaining his innocence.

“To be clear, not only is Justin innocent, but we also have every expectation that this matter will be on the verge of being dismissed once the District Attorney’s office has completed its methodical review of the evidence,” he wrote his lawyer, T. Edward Welbourn, in a statement, obtained by the Hollywood Reporter. “We hope to clear Justin’s name and help him move forward as quickly as possible.”
