Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders acknowledged the quick response of law enforcement and first responders, saying on social media, “I am grateful for your quick and heroic action to save lives. My prayers are with the victims and everyone affected by it.”
This tragic event is the latest in a series of mass killings at grocery stores, reminiscent of the 2022 Buffalo supermarket shooting, where a white supremacist killed ten black individuals, and the Boulder, Colorado, supermarket shooting of 2021, which left ten dead.
David Rodriguez, a local resident who allegedly recorded the above video, described hearing what he initially thought were fireworks while filling up his car at a nearby gas station. “We heard a few pops,” he said. He then witnessed people fleeing the Mad Butcher grocery store, with one person lying on the ground.
Rodriguez began recording the scene on his phone as the situation escalated. “The police started showing up, and then there was mass shooting and ambulances coming,” he described. “The bullets were just flying.”
