22-year-old ATV driver who ran over 80-year-old Trump supporter found dead in 'politically motivated' attack

An 80-year-old Michigan man was seriously injured when he was hit by an all-terrain vehicle while holding up a Trump sign in what police are calling a “politically motivated” attack.

The vicious and potentially deadly incident happened around 5:45 Sunday afternoon in the city of Hancock, culminating in a party that included the vandalism of two vehicles, also believed to be related to the views offender policies.

Police said the elderly victim was hit by the four-wheeler in the front yard of her home on Anthony Street as she tried to put back a campaign sign for Republican candidate Donald J. Trump after the driver of the ATV would have withdrawn outside

“At approximately 5:45 p.m., in the 1600 block of Anthony Street, the same subject driving an all-terrain vehicle (4-wheeler) allegedly with the intent to cause harm entered the yard of the residence, running over an 80-year-old man who was posting a political sign in his yard. The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and remains in critical condition,” Hancock police said in a statement. “The person driving the ATV is believed to be involved in all three incidents. Note that the thread appeared to be directed at both Trump supporters and law enforcement.”

According to a description, police identified the suspect as having a “thin build with possible dreadlocks or long hair.”

After a short manhunt, the 22-year-old suspect was found dead from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound after police received a text confessing to the attack and saying “Send someone to get me.”

When officers and deputies arrived at the address on Samson Street in Quincy Township they discovered the body.

“Deputies obtained a search warrant for the residence and removed several electronic devices, which will be searched by computer forensics specialists. Additional evidence was located, including the four-wheeler used during the incident in the city, as well as the clothing the suspect was wearing during the original incident,” according to the Houghton County Sheriff's Office.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries, including bleeding on the brain.
