The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. in Rossini near Gratiot in Detroit's notorious Red Zone, an area long plagued by deadly violence. It happened during a block party where hundreds of revelers had gathered, eyewitness Michael Pope, 21, said. “Once I heard gunshots, I ran out,” he said, describing the chaotic and panicked scene.
The victims were rushed to Hospital St. John of Detroit for urgent medical attention. Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities from the Michigan State Police, working with the Detroit Police Department, are working feverishly to piece together the details surrounding this heinous act.
Despite a substantial police presence at the scene and an impassioned plea from Democratic US Rep. Rashida Tlaib for urgent action, the culprits remain at large. “The problem is the normalcy of these shootings,” remarked Detroit Police Commissioner Ricardo Moore, a reminder of the widespread violence that plagues the city.
