From former President Donald Trump selected Republican Sen. JD Vance of Ohio as his running mate on July 15 during the first day of the Republican National Convention, interviews and speeches Vance gave before winning his Senate campaign resurfaced, including moments when he questioned prominent Democrats who did not have children, including Harris, Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “Usually the host will ask a Democrat, 'A lot of Democrats say JD Vance is just plain weird, what do you think … is he really a big weirdo?' And then the guest will inevitably agree that Vance is a weirdo,” he said. Elliot told the DCNF. “There's a journalistic facade, but the point is to set up the segment so there's a lot of 'JD Vance is weird' comments that stick in the viewers' brains.”

CNN, MSNBC and the Trump-Vance campaign did not immediately respond to DCNF's requests for comment.
